About Margaritaville Resort Gatlinburg
Margaritaville Resort sits right downtown on the river, and honestly, it's the weirdest combo that somehow works perfectly — Jimmy Buffett beach vibes smack in the middle of the Smokies. You park once (free for guests) and walk everywhere, which is huge since downtown Gatlinburg traffic is a nightmare. We stayed in a river-view room last spring and watching the water from our balcony with morning coffee beat any lobby breakfast scene.
The pool area is where this place really shines. They've got this massive outdoor setup with a waterslide that our kids hit about 200 times, plus these shallow pools with built-in lounge chairs where you can literally sit in the water with a drink. The indoor pool stays open year-round, but honestly nobody uses it much in summer when the outdoor action is happening.
One thing though — don't expect budget pricing here, especially during leaf season or summer weekends when families pack the place. The License to Chill bar does live music Friday and Saturday nights, and their Bahama Mama drinks are strong enough to make you forget you're in Tennessee mountains instead of Key West.
Fair warning: if you're coming in peak summer, that pool gets crazy crowded after lunch. We learned to hit it early morning or evening when the fire pits come alive and everyone's playing cornhole instead of fighting for pool space. The spa requires advance reservations if you want a massage, which caught us off guard our first visit.
Check-in starts at 4pm sharp, but we've shown up early and sometimes gotten lucky with room access. Being right across from Anakeesta means you'll hear some noise during busy days, but it dies down after park closing and the location convenience totally makes up for it.
