About The Park Vista - a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel - Gatlinburg
We stayed here last fall and honestly, the location is what sells it — 1,000 feet above downtown means you're looking down at the city lights instead of staring at another hotel across the street. Every room has a private balcony with mountain views, and if you spring for the $20 upgrade to a high floor, you'll catch sunrise over the national park. The 15-story atrium lobby is pretty impressive too, though the decor feels a bit dated even after their DoubleTree renovation.
The indoor pool complex with waterslides saves rainy days, especially with kids. Our daughter spent hours on that twisting slide while we soaked in the hot tub. Just don't expect anything fancy — some recent guests have complained about cleanliness issues, and we noticed the pool area could use some updating.
Breakfast is included for registered guests (made-to-order eggs and omelets), but there's some confusion about this since not everyone realizes it's complimentary. We hit Vista Grill for dinner one night — decent American food with those floor-to-ceiling mountain views, though don't expect much variety. Firefly's Patio Lounge does live music on Thursdays if you want a drink after the kids are asleep.
The trolley ride to downtown is short and beats dealing with Gatlinburg parking, but during peak hours (5-7pm) you might wait. We found it easier to drive down early morning or late evening when traffic's lighter. Rooms start around $96 per night in off-season, but October will cost you significantly more — book early for fall foliage.
One thing though — you're definitely removed from the downtown action up here. Some people love the quiet escape from tourist crowds, others feel too disconnected from the strip. Depends what you're after.
