TSM Quick Take
Worth it for you?
Ripley's Believe It or Not! Gatlinburg is best for families with older kids, teens, and adults who enjoy oddities, optical illusions, and unusual artifacts—think shrunken heads, mind-bending illusion rooms, and bizarre animal displays. With over 600 exhibits across three floors, it's a top pick for fans of the Ripley's brand and anyone seeking a quirky, mostly indoor attraction in downtown Gatlinburg, especially on a rainy day. The main drawback is the price, which is around $30 per adult before tax and can add up quickly for families, especially if you add combo passes. Some exhibits may be unsettling for very young children, and those uninterested in curiosity-cabinet style displays or looking for thrill rides may find it underwhelming. Crowds can be heavy during weekends and peak seasons, so plan for possible congestion.

About Ripley's Believe It or Not!
Ripley's just reopened after a 9-month renovation and honestly, it's completely different from what you might remember. They ditched that weird earthquake-cracked building facade for something more mountain-themed, and the whole flow changed — now you take an elevator to the top and work your way down through 16 galleries instead of climbing stairs the whole time.
The shrunken head is still there (because of course it is), but they've added some wild stuff like Ernest Hemingway's actual shrunken torso and this 200-year-old wooden carving that looks like either the devil or a sad woman depending on where you stand. We spent way too much time trying to figure out that optical illusion. There's also a vending machine selling bacon-flavored crickets, which our kids thought was hilarious but neither of us was brave enough to try.
One thing though — 600+ exhibits across 16 rooms is A LOT. Plan for at least 2 hours if you actually want to read everything, and that's assuming you don't get stuck at the interactive photo spots where everyone's trying to get the perfect shot for Instagram.
The kaleidoscope light show at the end is pretty cool, and they've got these face-tracking screens that put virtual headdresses on you, which sounds cheesy but the kids loved it. Fair warning: if you're coming during summer or on weekends, get there right when they open at 9am. Downtown Gatlinburg parking becomes a nightmare after 11am, and this place sits right in the thick of the Parkway chaos.
They're open until 11pm on weekends now, which is nice if you want to avoid the family crowds — after 8pm it's mostly adults and teenagers.
