About Rainforest Adventures Zoo
We stumbled onto this place on a rainy afternoon and ended up staying way longer than planned. Rainforest Adventures Zoo packs 130+ tropical species into just 2 acres, which sounds cramped but actually works — you're not hiking miles between exhibits with cranky kids. The capuchin monkey area is where we always end up first because those little guys are incredibly interactive and way more entertaining than you'd expect.
Jungle Jim's shows at 1pm and 3pm are honestly the main event. He does this weird mix of animal education, magic tricks, and gets kids (and brave adults) up to pet whatever creature he's brought out that day. We've seen him with everything from a snake to some kind of tropical bird that kept trying to steal his hat. Stay for both shows if you can — the 3pm one usually has more energy because he's warmed up by then.
The petting zoo section gets crazy busy right before the shows, so hit it early when you arrive at 9am. Our kids spent forever with the goats there, and honestly it gave us a chance to actually read some of the animal info without chasing anyone around.
One thing though — this isn't your typical outdoor zoo experience. It's more compact and intimate, which some people love and others find limiting. We've never had a bad time here, but if you're expecting something massive like you'd find in a big city, adjust your expectations. The sloth encounter thing sounds cool but we haven't tried it yet since it costs extra and you have to book ahead.
