About Vacation Lodge
We've stayed at Vacation Lodge twice now, and honestly, it's perfect if you want to be right in the thick of things without paying resort prices. The location on the Parkway puts you a 5-minute drive from Dollywood and walking distance to The Old Mill — which is clutch when you've got kids who want to see everything but also need frequent snack breaks.
The dual pool setup is actually pretty smart. Indoor pool stays open year-round, so even if it's cold or raining, the kids can still burn off energy. We used the outdoor one in July and it was nice, though fair warning — the hot tub can get ridiculously foamy. Like, bubble bath level foamy. Our kids thought it was hilarious, but it's definitely not the relaxing soak you might be picturing.
Breakfast runs 8-10am and it's the real deal — hot food, not just continental. Get there by 8:15 if you want the good stuff before the tour buses roll in. The rooms are basic but clean, with microwaves and fridges that actually work. Some have balconies overlooking the Parkway, which is fun for people-watching but noisy if you're a light sleeper.
One thing though — check out is strictly 11am. The cleaning staff will literally walk in at 11 on the dot, even if you're still packing. We learned that the hard way our first visit. But honestly, for $100-150 a night depending on the season, you're getting free parking, free breakfast, and you can walk to half the attractions in Pigeon Forge. That's a win in our book.
