About Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook
The Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook is honestly one of our favorite quick stops when we're driving between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. There are four separate pull-off spots along the Bypass where you can park and get these sweeping views of downtown Gatlinburg spread out below you, plus the mountains rolling off into the distance. No hiking required, no entrance fees — just pull over and snap some photos.
Fair warning though: if you're visiting between January and mid-April 2026, avoid weekdays from 7am to 7pm. They're doing major construction on the Bypass with single-lane closures that can back traffic up for a mile. We learned this the hard way last month when what should've been a 5-minute stop turned into a 30-minute crawl. Weekends are fine during construction, and once they finish in April, the new paved shoulders and improved pull-offs will actually make it safer to park.
The view is pretty spectacular, especially if you time it right. Early morning or late afternoon gives you the best lighting on the mountains, and you can actually see the Space Needle and other attractions from up there. October is gorgeous but absolutely packed — the narrow road gets crazy during peak foliage season.
One thing that bugs us is how the information signs are completely faded. You can barely read them anymore, which is a shame because they point out different peaks and landmarks. But honestly, the view speaks for itself. Just don't expect restrooms or any facilities — this is literally just a roadside pull-off with a killer view.
