Azul Cantina

We stumbled onto Azul Cantina last spring and honestly didn't expect much — just another Mexican place on the strip. But that rooftop bar completely changed our minds. You're sitting above Pigeon Forge with actual mountain views while sipping margaritas made with top-shelf tequila, not the tourist-trap stuff most places serve.

The Argentinian grill thing sounds gimmicky until you taste it. They're wood-firing proteins on this custom Gaucho-style setup, and it makes their pork tacos taste completely different from anywhere else we've tried. The chips and salsa flight is worth ordering just to figure out which salsa you like best — our kids fought over the mild verde one.

Here's what nobody mentions: parking is actually free in their lot, which is huge when you're dealing with The Mountain Mile crowds. But get there before 6pm on weekends or you'll circle forever looking for a spot. We learned that the hard way during fall foliage season.

One thing though — the kitchen gets slammed during peak times and we've had lukewarm entrees twice now. Ask for Tyson if he's working; he'll check on your food temperature without you having to flag him down. The rooftop fills up fast around sunset too, so either get there early or accept you're eating inside.

At $20-30 per person it's pricier than your typical Pigeon Forge Mexican joint, but you're paying for those views and the wood-fired difference. Skip it if you just want quick tacos, but if you want to sit above the chaos with a good margarita while the kids point at the Ferris wheel below, it's worth it.
